Upgrade to Soft Tissue Therapy BTEC 5

by The London School of Sports Massage

This course covers all advanced Soft Tissue Therapy assessment and treatment techniques from our well-established BTEC Level 5 Soft Tissue Therapy qualification. It incorporates the latest evidence-based principles, the biopsychosocial model of pain, and a person-centred approach to care.

Designed to meet the needs of both new and experienced therapists, the course allows flexibility in learning. While the full curriculum provides a comprehensive foundation, we recognise that many therapists already have significant experience with certain techniques.

Where spare places are available on a diploma course, we welcome experienced therapists to join part-way through, allowing them to focus only on subjects and techniques they are less familiar with.

However in the past, this has presented problems due to:

  • A lack of consistency in the quality of training on Level 3 and 4 massage qualification
  •  Courses that are not accredited through an Ofqual approved awarding body so we have no idea what was taught or how. And any claimed Level is meaningless without proper accreditation to prove it.
  • CPD courses that are attendance only and do not indicate a level of competence.

From the start, our Level 5 qualification is focused on treating people with chronic pain and minor MSK injuries. So the initial anatomy, physiology and clinical procedures are more advanced to begin with and students have to go back over some of the Level 3 theory subjects again but in greater depth.

If you want to be considered for an Upgrade course:

  • You need to have been practicing as a massage therapist for at least one-year and provide some evidence to support the quality of your professional work.
  •  List the techniques you use
  •  List the main types of treatments you give (sports, relaxation or clients with particular conditions)
  • Details of your training including:
    • Full qualification title(s)
    • When and where you trained
    • Length of training
    • Overall time to complete the qualification(s)
    • Number of classroom days/hours
    • Number of home study/practice hours

Please send this information, along with your contact details to admin@lssm.com titled “Upgrade application”.

We will review your application and may get in touch for additional information or a phone/Zoom meeting before notifying you of the outcome.

The LSSM has a no discrimination policy & students with disabilities are welcome to apply.

Syllabus

As the pioneer of Soft Tissue Therapy and leader of the industry we are continually developing our training to better meet the needs of our clients. Through this journey we have learned that clinical success involves more than just the individual techniques we use. So Soft Tissue Therapy is an approach to musculoskeletal care and not a stand alone set of manual techniques.

Soft Tissue Therapy is a Person Centred Approach to the Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation of minor and chronic musculoskeletal injuries and pain.

Soft Tissue Therapy is an interplay between Therapeutic Alliance, Hands-on techniques and Movement-based Rehabilitation all within a Biopsychosocial Framework of care.

Although this has always been an underlying concept behind the ISRM training programme we have now formalised it with three newly featured topics of Underpinning Theory.

Testimonials

☆☆☆☆☆  - review for Upgrade to Soft Tissue Therapy, BTEC Level 5 Course
“I wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to do this upgrade course and for making it accessible. I’m really loving it. I’m finding it really inspiring and at a point in my career when I was really questioning if I wanted to carry with massage, it is giving me more motivation. I loved learning about the positional release yesterday and some of the other techniques I learned made me feel inspired again as I said” Melanie – London
